Last year was my first year working the Chess Academy program and I really enjoyed it, as did the kids. The progress the children made in this program was amazing. The idea is great and very few after school programs give you everything you need to successfully complete the program and its tasks. I recommend the Chess Academy to anyone that has the opportunity to participate either as an employee or a student.  At the end of the program I received quite a few thank you cards from the kids as well as the parents.

I've worked for Chicago Public Schools for 14 years and have been part of Chess Academy for the last 6.  The Chess Academy is an excellent way for my students to practice their strategic thinking and problem solving skills.  This is so important for third graders because these skill are used in many aspects of Reading and Math.  I've seen my students gain confidence throughout the program.  It also teaches students the importance of determination and persistance.  They also love how much fun playing chess is!  Who could ask for anything more?
